Vacation 2008 Day 6

We spent the the day at the beach Wednesday, and saw DOLPHINS.

At first it was VERY unsetteling to see a fin protruding from the water...but it was soon followed by 3 others, and they had arched backs....then they jumped out of the water a little.

I was also attacked by a dead fish. There I was...minding my own buisness when I felt something bump into my chest...I look down and see a half eaten fish carcass starring back at me. I LOST TWO DROPS OF PEE ON THAT. Then seagulls flew in mass hysteria ensued.

In the evening we went to historic downtown Wilmington. There is a place called the COTTON EXCHANGE, that used to be just that. It was the place the cotton plantation owners would come to sell and export their cotton. It is now converted into a shopping center. All sorts of little knick-knack stores. Not really my cup of tea, but the building was neat.

I also found a cigar shop. Thank GOD.

We ended the day talking a family walk on the beach.

Vacation 2008 Day 5

It was gorgeous and we spent all day at the beach.

Neener neener neener.

In the evening we took a walk around the Fort Fisher historical area. Alex is REALLY starting to develop his appreciation and interest in American history...which exites me to no end. Also fills me with IMMENSE pride. Someplace Steve Baker is smiling as well.

He asked questions and I gave answers. Mostly about the Civil War and what it was. I LOVED IT.

Vacation 2008 Day 4

Today...it rained. Just like everyday so far.

So we went to the Fort Fischer Aqaurium which is about one mile from our house. Both Alex and Zach were VERY excited. The could wait to see the sharks.

Luke LOVED it. He loved the fish in the tanks. We know he likes stuff when he screams...and boy does he scream.

Every tank Tara put him in front of he screamed his head off. Alex and Zach had a chance to touch a horse shoe crab, Alex did... Zach did not.

There were huge lobsters which made me very hungry.

We headed back to the house...had lunch, and then Luke, Zach, and I went out to the beach while Tara and Luke took a much needed nap.

Pics are updated.

Vacation 2008 Day 3

OMG BATTLESHIP!

Today was our first full day at the beach, and we started it early. Luke must have suspected that Mommy and Daddy wanted to see the sunrise...so he was up at 5:30am. Thanks Luke...I am not paying for college you little @*#&@(#*&.

So...by 7:30 the other two heathens were up. At one point we ended up just starring at each other. The sun was out...so I said BEACH NOW. And so it was. We were out at the beach by 8:30.

Alex and Zach had a great time. They ran from the waves, dug in the sand, found various sea creatures, and complained from time to time.

Luke hated the sand. He was not impressed with the ocean either. His face was too PRECIOUS...his reaction was too cute.

It was at this point I realized we had left the camera up in the house. *#*(@#&

After about 3 hours on the beach...and since the weather report had called for thunderstorms all day...we felt as though, since the sun was out...we would go see the USS NORTH CAROLINA .

The boys were very excited. I was too. I used to LOVE here come here with my Dad. In fact, it was kind of hard on me at first because all I wanted to do was call him and tell him I was there with my boys. Meh....

It was also freakin' hot. The brave men that served on that ship must have had internal AC units, because the engines were not even running and that b*tch was hot. I would fail as a sailor...thank god others dont.

Zach, or as a friend of mine dubbed him, the WHIRLING DERVISH, was EVERY WHERE in that ship. He was amazed. But like a force of nature, his power to destroy must be respected, so Tara and I kept him on a tight leash.

The heat started to wear on the boys, and soon the cries I WANNA GO HOME replaced the ohhhs and ahhhss..so we headed back to the beach house.

****I bought a KICK ASS TIKI BAR sign for my back deck at this shop we stopped at****

We ended the day by swimming in the pool. Irony, it seems, is a b*tch.

Pics in the album.

Vacation 2008 Day 2

We got up (early) and had breakfast at the Holiday Inn. The Kids ate free. I was happy. We head SE. Luke slept for most of the trip. It was nice.

It took us about 4.5 hours to get to the beach from Winston-Salem. As we approached the beach, the thunder storms started. Of all the weeks from summer we picked, I am sure this will be the one with the most rain.

Our house is nice. GREAT balcony view...right on the ocean. We got settled, went to the grocery, and just sort of vegged for the rest of the day. This rain is going to kill me.

Here is some video from the first night.

*EDIT: I dont know why YOUTUBE screwed up the video...it plays fine from the site. I took it from my phone. It aint perfect but screw you for judging me.
Here are the first batch of pics:

Vacation 2008 Day 1

June 20, 2008
We left Cincinnati around 8AM and headed East on 32. The Tahoe was packed to the brim…so much so that Alex could barely be seen in the back seat. We stopped in Mt Orab for a quick breakfast, and then we were on our way. We planned on driving about 6 hours because of Luke.

6 hours = $130 in gas. In West Virginia, we paid $4.19 a gallon. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Anyhoo…we made it safe and sound to Winston-Salem, NC about 4:30pm. Went to dinner at Applebees, swam in the pool at Holiday Inn, and have now retired to our room. Tara is playing the PSP…Alex and Zach are watching PLANET OF THE APES.
Tomorrow…THE BEACH.
